Gender in mathematics education

Gabriele Kaiser had been working on gender aspects in mathematics education since 1997. In 1989 she established together with Cornelia Niederdrenk-Felgner the Working Group Women and Mathematics  within the  German Speaking Society of Mathematics Education (Gesellschaft für Didaktik der Mathematik) and headed the working group for many years.

In 1992 at the 7th International Congress on Mathematics Education (ICME-7), which took place in Québec, she conducted together with Patricia Rogers symposium “Gender and Mathematics” in the framework of the ICMI affiliated study group International Organisation of Women and Mathematics Education (IOWME). Based on this symposium she co-edited together with Patricia Rogers the book "Equity in Mathematics Education – Influences on Feminism and Culture".

She carried out various empirical studies on gender aspects in teaching and learning mathematics – among others referring to teacher education.
